PKR's Dilemma - Time to recite the Talqin for Anwar's Party?

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

I would like to touch on the latest developments concerning the Parti Keadilan Rakyat which is undergoing a dramatic turn of events and subject to severe consequences of political demise.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat @ PKR came into being for one major reason. One reason only!

Freeing Dato Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim from imprisonment on trumped up charges by persons who are yet to be implicated in court but largely due to the order and directive of his former mentor and political boss, ex Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr.Mahathir bin Mohamad.

This former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister was one of the most outstanding politicians during his tenure as the nation's promising leader and his charisma was such that when Anwar spoke , the nation listened.

His oratorical prowess was unmatched for his articulation and mastery of the Malay language and equally impressive command of English. He has to this day the 'gift of the gab' and none amongst this nation's politicians has the capabilities to match him. What a waste.

His religious credentials were superb having led the nation's largest and most influential Muslim youth movement @ 'Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia' or ABIM as it is known by its acronym in Malay.

His mercurial rise to the second highest political position of power in UMNO which he joined after being wooed by Tun Dr.Mahathir saw him ruffling the feathers of many UMNO top guns who were also eyeing the spot as Mahathir's successor and future Malaysian Prime Minister.

Trouble with Anwar was that the man was a tad impatient and his rocket fire political flight up the rungs of UMNO's ladder of political leadership brushed aside many who had struggled for power for so much more longer than him. Amongst those who suffered was the late Deputy Prime Minister Allahyarham Tun Ghafar Baba.

Anwar had many enemies in UMNO and thus many were just itching to crucify the fellow at the slightest opportunity they could get.

Their dreams were answered when the Grand Old Man @ Tun Dr.Mahathir himself started getting uncomfortable with Anwar's impatience to edge him out from the Premiership which he had held for 22 long years!

For many Malaysians, when the word Prime Minister was mentioned, none else would come to mind but the wily ol' Tun 'Dr. Mahathir ! Such was the impact of Mahathir's being the PM for over 2 decades! No other Malaysian Prime Minister can match or challenge Mahathir's record!

So, as we all know, Anwar got sacked unceremoniously. Mahathir accused him of being a bloody sodomite and Anwar's trial was the dirtiest in the history of this nation with lewd accusations and sexual misconduct attributed to this man who was known for his Islamic ideals.

As they say, the only way to discredit a religious fellow was to smear his reputation with charges of filth and sex related accusations. As expected, his reputation was sullied and damaged beyond repair right up to this day.

The machinations of those who are powerful and have the mass media in their control proved seriously damaging and Anwar Ibrahim's splendid track record and Islamic credentials have been corroded and destroyed so viciously by Mahathir where he even spew forth his hatred and charges against Anwar on live national televison to the whole nation and right across the whole wide world.

Trust the old man to be a Master in Machiavellian political tyranny! None can beat him yet!

So, Anwar got tainted systematically, tarred and feathered and brown nosed with such a brutality that even to this day, many cringe in fear and wish that such a calamity must never fall upon anyone, even to their most despised enemies.

Anwar surely sets the record for being victimized beyond anyone's wildest imaginations as far as the tendencies to cause harm politically goes by in this nation.

Anwar got arrested by the balaclava clad Special Action Unit team of the Royal Malaysian Police who broke in at his home, bundled him off unceremoniously into a van, driven away from his family and friends, blindfolded into the night, handcuffed behind his back, stripped naked and thrown into a lock up and then was walloped black and blue by Tan Sri Rahim Noor, the former Malaysian Inspector General of Police in Bukit Aman, the Royal Malaysian Police Headquarters.

Sent to prison for 6 long years on charges of corruption and abuse of power. He remained in prison for all those years and reported attempts were made to snuff him out in jail by way of gradual arsenic poisoning.

His arrest and imprisonment unleashed a 'Reformasi' movement by all those who loathed Mahathir's rule and the nation went through such as testing period of civil unrest and there were many who got bloodied and walloped by the FRU and Special Branch as a result.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat came into being led by Anwar's wife Datin Seri Dr. Wan Azizah and his sympathizers with only one major objective. To free Anwar from jail and to cause Mahathir to step down from power.

The Malaysian Opposition rallied for his cause. The country was caught in a state of unrest and nearly became a police state as a result. I hope such a situation never recurs again, ever!

He was like a fishbone stuck in the throat of the Malaysian government and he remained in prison even after Mahathir stepped down as the PM.

Mahathir's successor, the 'Mr.Clean' Abdullah Badawi is far from the dictatorial person that Mahathir was and he didn't disturb the judicial process of the nation as Anwar's supporters and himself appealed to the courts.

As we all know, Anwar was finally freed and today, he is barred from actively participating in Malaysian politics and can only do so by the 14th of April, 2008.

His claim to be the 'de facto' leader of the party which his wife leads till now and the disastrous consequences of Mahathir's politically induced character assassination of Anwar all these years and the general atmosphere of the Malaysian public to not trust the man anymore has somewhat started to affect the loyalty of all those folks who had rallied behind him and his wife for so long.

One by one, his supporters are deserting him and the PKR party as a result and many of them accuse him of being dictatorial himself and committing breaches of trust and promises that he made when they signed up with PKR.

I for one had long supported him but now feel that he has no chance to ever stage a political comeback here in this land. The damage done to Anwar is too severe to see any major healing in his lifetime.

I even wrote earlier expressing my doubts as to whether he can do a 'Nelson Mandela' seeing that the PKR's main objective had already been realized with his getting free from prison.

I had wrote to him before advising him to stay clear of the 'political remora's' from UMNO who stuck to him purely for their own vested interests and would swim over to another once he's done with and doesn't offer any opportunities for themselves to either enrich their own pockets or use him as a stepping stone for their own aspirations in the Malaysian political arena.

I now wonder whether the time has come for the 'Talqin' to be recited over the Parti Keadilan Rakyat Malaysia as more and more of its leaders desert him and head over to greener pastures?

I for one think that Anwar would do better to forget politics, focus on Islamic Dakwah and maybe just do business in the 'halal food industry' which is a huge opportunity to make more money legitimately and do the whole world a major favor.

Anyway, I leave it to him. It's his life. I can only share my personal views and thoughts about him, whom I used to support as my future Prime Minister and fellow Da'ee here in this space of mine.

About his chances of being a future Prime Minister, I have my doubts but in him being a good Da'ee of Islam , I believe that he has all the necessary 'Ilm and capabilities to be a great one.

May Allah SWT guide him and us all to a better future, both here on this Earth and in the Akhirat! Ameen Ya Rabbal Alameen!

Wabillahi taufeek walhidayah. Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
