Allah ~ What you need to know about our Lord Almighty?

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh!
May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you!

This is the Salam. It is the universal greeting of us who are Muslims, given to our fellow Believers who submit to and believe in Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

To those of you who are yet to be Muslims, I wish that Allah's Guidance will soon be with you. Ameen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters.

There are many who email me asking about what they want to know and learn about Islam?

Take for instance, the following email from Brother Johan Sly ;

Hello and greetings,

I came across your website and got to know that you are a well learned person in your religion. As i am now trying to learn your religion i hope that you can help me out in answering some of my question.

Please let me know what you think and if you can be my teacher. I've tried to find contacts of people like Mr Ravi Abdullah but i do not know anyone there in Malaysia who has his contact.

Thank you.

This was my reply to him:

May peace be upon you Johan,

I have no problems in sharing what I have come to know with you bro.

Life is a journey of learning this and that till our time is up.

Let's learn together.

Insya Allah! ~ God willing!

Johan answered :

Hello Zainol,

Thank you for the prompt reply. Appreciate your willingness to help me in this journey.

  • First and foremost i would like to really understand the real meaning of 'Allah'.
  • Is it an just Arabic word for God or the Muslim God's name is Allah?
  • Also in Islam it is said that there were 4 other books that were given before the Quran. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  • Is there anywhere i could find these version of the books online so i could read them?
  • Any book publishers out there who have it in the market? I would like to learn the initial books that were given by Allah before reading the final book.

Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon. I eagerly wait for your reply and cannot wait to start this learning journey.

My next reply and request to him :

If you don't mind, I'd like to answer you publicly in my blog.

Reason being that there have been many like you who would like to get answers to the same questions but no one seems to want to oblige them.

Are you okay with that?

Johan answered :

Yes sure i'm okay with that. But could i still post your question here through email?

My reply :

Sure. Keep asking through email as you wish.

My answers would benefit those who read my blog and I hope to clear the many misunderstandings that even some ignorants amongst the Muslims of the world unfortunately have been subjected to.

Insya Allah! ~ God Willing!

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Johan's Question # 1 : First and foremost I would like to really understand the real meaning of 'Allah'.

My answer :

For me as a human being who believes in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala as my Creator and Lord, my understanding of the real meaning of Allah is derived from my years of studying my faith and continuous study to delve into the oceans of knowledge about Allah that is found in the Holy Al Quran Al Kareem, the Tafsirs of it, the authentic Hadiths of the Blessed Final Messenger of Allah, the Chief of the 124,000 noble Prophets and Messengers of Ar Rahman, Sayyidina Muhammad ibni Abdullah Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam and the endless kitabs @ sacred books explaining about Islam plus numerous other sources found amongst us today.

The term 'Allah' is used and revealed to us mankind by Allah Himself in His Last and Final Testament @ the Holy Al Qur'an Al Kareem.

The online Wikipedia attempts to describe the term 'Allah' from what is obviously not sourced from the Islamic perspective and thus ought not be accepted in its totality as a legitimate source of explanation or information about 'Allah'.

As a Muslim, I do not recognize the information published by Wikipedia in its entirety for the untruths and misinformation the above site contains about 'Allah'.

'Allah' is described by God Almighty Himself very clearly through many revelations in the Holy Al Quran.

One particular series of revealed verses that describe Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in the clearest manners are 'Ayatul Kursi'.

The verses above are considered as the greatest verses and revelations about our Lord and Supreme Master of all creation.

Ayatul Kursi or Verses of The Throne describes Allah's Majesty in full detail.

For those of us who are able to comprehend and ponder upon each meaning of these verses as they have been revealed ought not be hazy anymore as to the Attributes of Allah the Almighty God.

As this article is in English, those who can understand its meanings should please do their own further studies about knowing as to who is our Lord in the whole truth and not be confused anymore by the various misinterpretations that those who are ignorant about Allah vainly attempt to mislead the masses if not the entire mankind through their writings and publishing's both online and in print or broadcast media.

Let us study the meanings of this Ayatul Kursi which is revealed in Verse 255, Surah Al Baqarah, Chapter 2 in the Holy Al Quran Al Kareem :

255. Allahu la ilaha illa huwa alhayyu alqayyoomu ~ La ta'khuzuhu sinatun wala nawmun lahu ma fee alssamawati wama fee al-ardi ~ man thaallathee yashfaAAu AAindahu illa bi-ithnihi~ yaAAlamu ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum~wala yuheethoona bishay-in min Ilmihi illa bima shaa~ wasiAAa kursiyyuhussama wati waal-ard~wala yaooduhu hifthuhuma wahuwa alAAaliyyu alAAatheemu

255. God. There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permits? He knows what (appears to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He wills. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).

Defining the meanings of the revelations above:

  • Allahu la ilaha illa huwa alhayyu alqayyoomu.
  • God. There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal.
Allah describes Himself as such. God tells us that there is no other god but Himself, Who is the Living God. He is Self Subsisting. He is Eternal.

If there is any other god than Allah, then we will have chaos before us. Just imagine having this god and that god as many Kaffirs impose upon themselves?

You have a god for this matter and another for some other need. Boggles the mind but hello?

There are billions of our fellow human beings who have been doing just that for ages after their forefathers who happened to be amongst the Children of Adam Alaihis Salam went wayward from what Our Father taught them?

Allah explains that He is the Living God. He didn't come to be born as a being, grew up, nursed at 'his mother' as some would have you to believe, die at the cross or whatever?

He Lives. He is Watching us as we go about our ways in our own short, temporal lives here on Earth, the 3rd stage of our existence.

Allah is Self Subsisting. He doesn't need us to go offer Him anything save our prayers in submission to Him through our solats.

He doesn't need us to go offer food or any gifts for Him. He doesn't reside at any corner here on Earth. Not by the drains, roadside, tree base, weird looking rocks and stones. Allah, Glory be to Him presides over us in His Arash, way above Jannatul Firdaus.

Unlike the entire creation, Allah is Eternal. He does not live or exist within a time frame like us.

You, me and all other living beings or creatures come to be born here in this Earth, grew up from being a helpless infant or baby, became a young child, a young boy or girl, teenager, young adult, and in my case, now a grandfather of sorts, hehehe.

Very soon, you will be hearing of my demise, Insya Allah.

Where will my soul be?

Wallahu `alam. God Knows! It might either be to Hell or Heaven or God Forbid, caught in between?

Not that I am being a defeatist or anything but I know not to speculate as to whether I or any other person is on a one way ticket to Paradise or Hellfire as others so freely state as they please nowadays?

It's up to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to Decide where to send me? Insya Allah.
  • La ta'khuzuhu sinatun wala nawmun lahu ma fee alssamawati wama fee al-ardi
  • No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala states that He doesn't sleep or grow tired as some have said Him to be in the matter of Genesis where they say that Allah 'rested' on the 7th day, etc.?

Nauzubillah! Allah also declares that all things in the Heavens above and here on Earth are His! We all belong to Him and Him only! Not to any idol or created being.
  • Man thaallathee yashfaAAu AAindahu illa bi-ithnihi?
  • Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permits?
Allah is asking us as to who or what can do anything to intercede for us in His Glorious Presence except as He Permits?

This refers to the promise of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to allow the Blessed Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam to intercede on our behalf @ his ummah to plead for Allah's Forgiveness and to save us from the Narr @ Hellfire on the Yaum al Qiyamat @ Day of Judgment.
  • yaAAlamu ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum
  • He knows what (appears to His creatures as) before or after or behind them.
Allah the All Knowing declares that He knows everything about what takes place in our life? Whether its our past, present or future?

That is a Godly Attribute. He is our God. Our Creator. Unlike some manmade gods and deities which find themselves disfigured, blasted to bits, submerged in this or that and forgotten by those who created these lifeless useless figurines in the first place.

Allah is very well Aware of all that we do or plan to?
  • wala yuheethoona bishay-in min Ilmihi illa bima shaa
  • Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He wills
For all that we who are His servants try and seek knowledge of things beyond our understanding, there will always be a stage where even the most learned and skilled scientists, professionals and experts in their declared fields, throw up their hands and state that that's all that they can do and it is all up to God Himself?

  • wasiAAa kursiyyuhussama wati waal-ard~
  • His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth
Allah states that His Power extends over the Heavens and the Earth. He is the Owner and Supreme Master over all that we perceive and have yet to learn about covering the entire universes above us.

I say universes because from the knowledge that we have come to learn and acquire, we know that our Sun is but a star and has all these planets which we call as the Solar System before us.

How many stars do you see in the sky above us on a clear, cloudless night?

Use your commonsense or learned knowledge in figuring out what I am stating here with regard to the above explanations with regard to the matter of the universes and galaxies we have before us?
  • wala yaooduhu hifthuhuma wahuwa alAAaliyyu alAAatheemu
  • and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).
English understanding folks reading the above would know exactly what Allah the Glorious One is sharing with us through the meanings of the revelations above!

For a Muslim, this knowledge about Who he or she submits to is very crucial to add meaning and substance of their faith towards God Most Supreme, Most High.

Today, we have amongst us, many who choose to submit to deities and gods or goddesses of their own making or vivid imaginations, borne out of either their own ignorance or inherited beliefs from those of their ancestors who went astray from the teachings of At-Tawheed and Aqeedah taught to them by the very first Man who also happened to be a Prophet of Almighty Allah, Sayyidina Adam Alaihis Salam.

Adam Alaihis Salam, our blessed Father. Father of all Mankind. Created by Almighty Allah in the highest Heavens using His Own Hands out of earth collected from all parts of the planet Earth by Sayyidina Izra`il Alaihis Salam, one of Allah's mighty Angels who was subsequently appointed as the Malaikatul Maut @ the Angel of Death.

Sayyidina Izrail Alaihis Salam succeeded in procuring earth from the planet when all other angels failed in that God given mission.

For his success, he was appointed by Allah to be the Angel in charge of taking the lives of the entire Creation.

Knowledge about such matters are obtained by studying in depth about the spiritual aspects of Al Islam. I learned them through my years of study in Sufism. I don't claim to be a master in that realm but I am satisfied with the understandings that I have come to learn and hold it to be the truth, so help me God.

Back to the topic.
  • There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal.
It is common logic for us who are able to think and to ponder as to the matter of Allah being the Only Supreme God who created us and all that we find in Existence.

It is preposterous for there to be any other God for the rest apart from Allah Azza Wa Jalla are just created living beings, whether they be humans, flora and fauna or dead inanimate objects.

If there are other gods or super beings capable of creation or manipulation of Life as we know it, surely there will be chaos in all realms of existence?

To me, all other gods or deities being worshiped by those who aren't Mukmins to be nothing but a product of the earlier generations who happen to be amongst those wayward Children of our Father the Prophet Adam Alaihis Salam.

The Non Muslims inherited such distorted beliefs through the passage of Time as a natural result of there being a balance between the Truth and Falsehood.

It is not surprising to me to learn of new sects and deviant beliefs amongst us today for all these latest self developed cults and movements that we hear cropping up practically every other day is just proof of man's vivid imaginations brought about by his or her failure to see the reality before them.

When the Christians of Najran or Nazarene visited Rasul Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam to enquire about Al Islam and 'Allah' that the Blessed Messenger came to teach Mankind about, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala revealed to Prophet Muhammad the Surah Al Ikhlas @ Chapter of Faith so that they @ the Christians as well as all other mankind get to learn about Him, Allah the Almighty Lord :

I have found this site where the revelation of Surah Al Ikhlas is well explained as follows :

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

1 Say: He is God,a the one and One and Only;b 2 God, the Eternal, Absolute;c 3 He begets not, nor is He begotten; d 4 And there is none like unto Him. e

a. The nature of God is here indicated to us in a few words, such as we can understand. The qualities of God are described in numerous places elsewhere, e.g., in 59:22-24, 62:1 and 2:255. here we are specially taught to avoid the pitfalls into which men and nations have fallen at various times in trying to understand God.

The first thing we have to note is that His nature is so sublime, so far beyond our limited conceptions, that the best way in which we can realize Him is to feel that He is a Personality, "He", and not a mere abstract conception of philosophy. He is near to us; He cares for us; we owe our existence to Him.

Secondly, He is the One and Only God, the Only One to whom worship is due; all other things or beings that we can think of are His creatures and in no way comparable to Him.

Thirdly, He is Eternal, without beginning or end, Absolute, not limited by time or place or circumstance, the Reality before which all other things or places are mere shadows or reflections.

Fourthly, we must not think of Him as having a son or a father, for that would be to import animal qualities into our conception of Him.

Fifthly, He is not like any other person or thing that we know or can imagine: His qualities and nature are unique.

b. This is to negate the idea of polytheism, a system in which people believe in gods many and lords many. Such a system is opposed to our truest and profoundest conceptions of life. For Unity in Design, Unity in the fundamental facts of existence, proclaim the Unity of the Maker.

c. Samad is difficult to translate by one word. I (i.e 'Abdullah Yusuf 'Ali) have used two, "Eternal" and "Absolute". The latter (Absolute) implies : (1) that absolute existence can only be predicted of Him; all other existence is temporal or conditional; (2) that He is dependent on no person or things, but all persons or things are dependent on Him, thus negativing the idea of gods and goddesses who ate and drank, wrangled and plotted, depended on the gifts of the worshippers, etc.

d. This is to negate the Christian idea of the godhead, "the Father", "the only begotten Son" etc.

e. This sums up the whole argument and warns us specially against Anthropomorphism, the tendency to conceive God after our own pattern, and insidious tendency that creeps in at all times and among all peoples.

End of quote.

So, there you have it.

Allah being explained and described so very clearly in the above verses and following knowledge expounded in the simplest of terms so as not to add any more confusion to those who are already reeling from the onslaught of misinformation spread by the vile ones amongst mankind since Time immemorial.

I can keep going on and on explaining from my studies and continuous research about our Master but that would defeat the purpose of me here trying to enlighten my brother Johan and those of you my honorable readers.

I do not claim to be infallible and know it all but when someone like Johan comes along and sincerely asks me as to what he doesn't understand about my faith and our God Almighty, this kampong chap is bound to oblige and share what I can, whilst still being alive for now?

I am very much and well aware that this entry could very well be my last for the Malaikatul Maut @ Angel of Death, Sayyidina `Izrail Alaihis Salam might just be coming to get me at any given second. :)

I will answer Johan's questions one by one, Insya Allah but as you probably can see, this old Muslim does tend to elaborate on any given subject and also prone to stray away for there is just so much that I want to share but have to struggle my best to stay on topic...hehehehe...

Johan, I have to stop here for now. Will answer your next question soon.

Wabillahi Taufik Wal Hidayah.

Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
