Alaskan Masjid Project ~ Let's do our bit for Islam!

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

Ya Ikhwanul Muslimin na wal Muslimat,

The opportunity has come for us today to do our part for the establishment of a masjid in the city of Anchorage, State of Alaska, United States of America.

The land has already been purchased by the Muslims of Alaska as reported by J. Samia Mair here in her column in the Baltimore Muslim Examiner. You can view its site location by clicking here and check out the map.

If you have the means to donate to this noble project, please bank in your contributions to the Alaska Masjid Project's Paypal Account here.

The project is called as the 'Islamic Community Centre Anchorage Alaska.

The Islamic Community Center of Anchorage Alaska is a diverse community that includes African Americans, Caucasians, Albanians, South Asians, Africans, Middle Eastern, Indonesians, Malaysians, Alaska Natives and others. The estimated number of Muslims in Anchorage is 2,000 to 3,000 people. The numbers are growing as we speak. Alhamdulillah.

Building a masjid is fard in Islam. Without a central prayer house, the Muslim ummah will remain divided and disunited. Issues affecting the ummah will not be able to be solved and there will be no gathering of the believers united in purpose and congregate in the worship and glorification of Allahu Ta'ala.

The masjid is the symbol of our unity. It is the central rallying point of our existence as servants of Almighty God.

In the Surah Al Jinn, Chapter 72 Verse 18, Almighty Allah reveals :
Sahih International
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah , so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
I recall an incident back home in Penang, when I confronted some committee members of the Masjid Kapitan Keling who had bushwhacked a Caller to Islam, Brother Kamarudin Abdullah Santanasamy because he had been preaching to the tourists who visit the mosque.

They said that he didn't ask for their permission before letting the visitors in to the mosque's corridor. I asked them as to whose mosque it was?

As expected, they were flabbergasted. It's Allahu Ta'ala's mosque. Not theirs or ours to claim.

Just the same with every masjid or musalla on earth.

Each and every masjid or musalla belongs to none but Allahu Ta'ala.

We are just their caretakers.

Read here to learn more about the significance of a mosque to us Muslims. Its more than just a building or a center where we gather to pray and worship Almighty God.

Its the central focus point of our lives. We congregate to glorify our Lord and Creator by worshiping Him in unison and forge our spirits together in a solid manifestation of our Love and Respect for our Maker.

We gather to celebrate and honor those whom we cherish when they get married in the hallowed halls of our masjid and musalla.

We come together as one ummah at our masjids and musallas when our leaders call us to join them in discussing the issues and problems affecting us as a people who believe in none but Allahu Rabbul Alamin and our Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam.

The masjid is our central headquarters where our lives join together as one ummah, one community and where we seek refuge and sanctuary from the tumultuous world outside.

In its abode, we find peace and shelter from all that distresses our soul. I always feel at peace when I am in a masjid or surau.

My favorite spot in Masjid Kapitan Keling has always been its corridors where I had spent countless years sharing information about Islam with visitors from all around the world and where many had taken their Syahadah from myself and my friends in the Islamic Centre which we set up there in the masjid's minaret structure.

So, dear brothers and sisters in Islam, lets help make this project a reality. The land has already been purchased for a sum of USD$600,000.00 through donations collected from Alaska's Muslims and elsewhere.

We now need to pool in our resources and contribute to this worthy project that will see the building of the first ever masjid of Allahu Ta'ala in the City of Anchorage, State of Alaska.

Wonder if Sarah Palin is gonna be holding up a placard in protest there?

Jokes aside, lets see to it that she gets the message of Islam right by sharing with her the Truth of Islam right in her state.

Please spread the message and do your part for the Islamic Community Center Anchorage Alaska!

Insya Allah.
