Muslim Heritage and the 1001 Inventions from the Golden Age of Islam.

Western education, the standard system that is quickly being adopted the world round, is often at odds with the teachings of Islam and often remiss in teaching the proper history of Islam.

This Western oriented focus in education often leaves out many landmark Muslim figures but is necessary to obtain most jobs that are globally competitive and viable. However, technology is making education easier to personalize and jobs from abroad easier to get, and with the budget crisis the need for less inflated labor is at an all time high.

Overseas law jobs are currently pouring into South East Asia, and because of online paralegal programs, it is easy to get an education without the subsequent indoctrination. The ascent from poverty has never been a more viable option as it is today.

There are just so many inventions by Muslim geniuses of the past that have come to be the catalyst for many improvements to be made in the form of countless advancements in the various fields of science, technology, engineering, etc in our modern world today.

From pioneering advanced systems of mechanical engineering that brought about revolutions in the way hydraulic pumps and other useful innovations have come to be, medical science, astronomy, aeronautics, photography that led to the many innovative forms of film making, multimedia, etc, time keeping and countless other important aspects of living life in a world full of innovations that we all owe to the masters of the Golden Age of Islamic Civilization! Some of them are:
Sultan Mirza Ulugh Beg- Astronomer, Mathematician
Al-Jazari: Civil engineer, Ibn Al-Haytham: Scientist in a lot of fields (Anatomy, Astronomy, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine, Ophthalmology, philosophy, physics, Psychology, Visual perception), Abbas Qasim Ibn Firnas: Inventor, Engineer, Aviator and Physician, Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi: Physician, Surgeon(The father of modern surgery), Chemist, Cosmetologist, and Scientist, Fatima Al-Fihri (started the first and now oldest university in the world @ The University of Al-Karaouine or Al-Qarawiyyin) and many more other brilliant contributors to our world in the field of science, technology, etc.

University of Al-Karaouine or Al-Qarawiyyin
One of my readers @ Mohamed Firdaus Shajahan alerted me to the excellent short movie above starring multi award winning British actor Sir Ben Kingsley as Al Jazari explaining about the immense contribution of Muslim geniuses such as Al Jazari and others to students on a field trip to the Library.

Followed by two short videos showing Professor Salim Al Hassani explaining about the 1001 inventions by Muslim scientists and engineers.

Salim T S Al-Hassani is an Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering and currently an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester
University of Manchester, UK
He is Chairman of the Foundation of Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC),[1] founder of the academic portal;[2] and Chief Editor of the 1001 Inventions[3] touring exhibition, built as a global education initiative which includes a book,[4] award winning film[5] and teacher’s pack; and the Curriculum Enrichment company, CE4CE.[6]

I'm glad that the world finally acknowledges that instead of what the people of yore termed to generalize the period where the Western world came to live in the Dark Ages there was in the Middle East especially in Muslim lands what is heralded as the Golden Age of Islamic Civilization with inventors and masters of the various fields of science and technology plus a 1001 inventions that are depicted in the short movie above.

The modern world owes many improvements of our current life today to these ancient masters who brought about many innovative ways to make life much more easier for the people of this Earth by coming up with their many inventions and wondrous systems that have now evolved into making our life so comfortable today.

Modern day scientists and engineers are still discovering many, many important revelations from the Golden Age of Islamic Civilization and in turn reintroducing these innovations to the world.

If only the learned Muslims of today can take a hint from the brilliant Muslim scientists, engineers and ground breaking inventors of before and return to their inheritance of being the People of Knowledge and bring about a renaissance of the glorious Golden Age of Islam?

Right now, many Muslims are unfortunately wallowing in the petty quarrels amongst themselves and wasting precious time in petty disputes with one another such as what we witness taking place in this so called Muslim nation of Malaysia!

They'd do better to look for ways to improve and add values to our life instead of taking to the streets in one protest after another as if that's the only purpose of their coming into this world is for?

Live to benefit mankind for Allah loves not those who seek to harm others by actions that are detrimental to society no matter where one lives in?

In Surah Taha Chapter 20 Verse 114 in the Holy Qur'an, Allahu Ta'ala reveals:

FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu wala taAAjal bilqur-animin qabli an yuqda ilayka wahyuhu waqul rabbizidnee AAilma
Sahih International
So high [above all] is Allah , the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

Seek and acquire knowledge for it is the most important asset that one needs to have in order to gain 'Ilm of Islam, Iman and taqwa towards Allah.

Seek useful and beneficial knowledge and once you have mastered it, do teach others.

Insya Allah, your life will be worth to be remembered.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha qeela lakum tafassahoo fee almajalisifafsahoo yafsahi Allahu lakum wa-ithaqeela onshuzoo fanshuzoo yarfaAAi Allahu allatheenaamanoo minkum wallatheena ootoo alAAilmadarajatin wallahu bima taAAmaloonakhabeer
Sahih International
O you who have believed, when you are told, "Space yourselves" in assemblies, then make space; Allah will make space for you. And when you are told, "Arise," then arise; Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

Surah Al Mujadila Chapter 58 Verse 11 Holy Quran.

May Allah bless and guide us all. Ameen.
